PLEASE READ-- ADDITIONAL INFO for the 2010-2011 X-ICE and Mite Programs

BEDFORD BEARS SEASON 2010-11 – X-ICE AND MITE TRAVEL PROGRAMS

As the result of USA Hockey promoting X-Ice hockey for all players 8 and under, the Hudson Valley Hockey League has decided that the season 2010-11 will be the last one during which  Travel Hockey for 8 year old skaters will be allowed on a full sheet of ice. There will be no league play/championship but organizations are free to play an independent schedule. Accordingly, the Bedford Bears Board has decided to offer the following programs to players born in 2002 and later:

 

X-ICE PROGRAM

 

Program Director: tba

Fee: $ 900

 

  • Players born in 2003 and later will be broken down by skill level for both practices and games
  • 26 Monday practices of one hour. ½ hour will be led by a skating instructor and the other ½ hour will be dedicated to puck skills.
  • 28 weekend slots of 1:15 on a full sheet of ice for skill development, team concept and X-ice games.
  • The Hudson Valley League is planning to organize 5 Jamborees during the upcoming season and Bedford Bears will participate in them at no extra cost to the families.
  • Volunteer coaches will have to obtain the Level 1 certification from Hockey USA

 

MITE TRAVEL PROGRAM

 

Manager/Head Coach: tba

Fee: $ 1400

 

·         Players born in 2002

·         26 Monday practices of one hour. ½ hour will be led by a skating instructor and the other ½ hour will be dedicated to skill development .

·         28 weekend slots of 1:15 on a full sheet of ice to be used for practices and approx. 10 home games

·         Approx. 10 away games in the Lower Hudson Valley area

·         Participation in the Haunted Shootout tournament in Marlborough, Ma. October 22-24, 2010. Hotel/meals at the cost of the families

·         Goal of the program is to achieve a 3:1 ratio of practices to games

·         Volunteer coaches will have to obtain the Level 1 certification from Hockey USA

BEDFORD BEARS HOCKEY

8 & UNDER PROGRAMS

 

PANDA BEARS – MINI-MITES LEVEL ONE

Eligibility: any youngster age 5 or 6 who can skate on his own

 

Cross ice program only:

·       2 practices per week – 1 hour each

·       Fundamentals of skating, puck handling and passing

·       No one practices as a goalie

·       Small area games

·       Level One certification at end of season  

 

GRIZZLY BEARS – MINI-MITES LEVEL TWO

Eligibility: any youngster age 5, 6 or 7 who has mastered Level One

 

Cross-ice program only:

  • 2 practices per week – 1 hour each
  • Fundamentals of skating, puck handling, passing and shooting
  • Small area games
  • Goalies practices as goalies for half the practices
  • Cross-ice games against other clubs – participation in Jamborees
  • Level Two certification at end of season

 

MITES B

Eligibility: any youngster age 6, 7 or 8 who has mastered Level Two or evaluation ?

 

Combination of cross-ice and full ice program:

·       2 practices per week – 1 hour each

·       Intermediate skating, puck handling, passing and shooting

·       Game situation drills and small area games

·       Goalies practices as goalies for half the practices

·       Limited nbr. of full ice games starting after January 01 

·       Attendance to one late season tournament 

 

MITES A

Eligibility: 14 players age 7 or 8 selected at evaluation sessions in early April

 

Full ice program only:

·       Ratio of practices to games: not less than 2:1  

·       Advanced skating, puck handling, passing and shooting

·       Game situation drills

·       Approx. 30 full ice games incl. 2-3 tournaments
